Primary 1 Learning Tasks 14th May

Good Morning boys and girls. I loved seeing all of your responses to Cleo’s challenge yesterday. She liked them too, then she promptly went back to sleep. (She sleeps a lot!)

Literacy: PhonicsToday we are going to practice our rhyming words again. Here are a few games you could play:
https://www.roomrecess.com/mobile/RhymeRoundUp/play.html http://www.literactive.com/Download/live.asp?swf=story_files/washing_line_rhyme_US.swf https://www.turtlediary.com/game/words-that-rhyme.html

Share your favourite nursery rhyme with your adults at home.

Can you listen carefully to the words of the nursery rhyme and find the words that rhyme.

E.g. In Twinkle Twinkle Little Star the words star and are rhyme and high and sky rhyme.
Literacy: ReadingLog into your Teach my Monster to read account and play for about 20 minutes.
NumeracyWe are still practicing our money and making given amounts.   Go to https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/activities/cashing-in/cashing-in.html and choose up to 10p.   Can you make sure that you count out the correct amount.
Health & WellbeingYesterday you looked at what different things need to survive. Can you design a meal for yourself that is healthy.   You should try to include some sort of fruit or vegetable in your meal.

Lots to share in Nursery

A massive well done to Zachary. He spent ALL day working on creating a dinosaur costume and he has done an amazing job. You even scared Mrs Forth Zachary, you look so realistic.

Great work!!
Great moves Harris

Harris didn’t fancy doing crafts today after spending lots of time doing them on Monday so he put on his very fearful costume and did the dinosaur dance, watched on by sister Eilidh! Well done Harris you’ve done great dancing there.

Roar

Alfie also mad a terrific costume! I really like the teeth Alfie and we are certainly missing your big smile.

Amy was busy with her Mum today baking and practicing jigsaws. She also had time to make these amazing dinosaurs. I am really impressed Amy!

Darren has busy doing lots of literacy. He has been practicing his pencil control by colouring in and has been reading his new book. Its been great see your pictures Darren!

Darren preparing for P1!

Shamya and her sister were super excited to be travelling to London. Their train was a special sleeper train and they had their own bedroom complete with bunk beds. They travelled over night and woke up in London. They are staying with family down there and we hope they continue to send us lovely photos.

Having fun in London and on the sleeper train!

Keep the photos coming, especially from those who haven’t sent any in for a while or at all. We are all missing each other so its a nice way to share news.

Wonderful Work

Primary one boys and girls, you’ve been busy this week!

You’ve been researching what different plants and animals eat and need to survive.
Some fabulous spelling / phonics work!
Busy little bees sorting food into ‘fruit’ and ‘vegetables’
Working hard to identify coins and make different amounts of money.

Nursery 13.05.2020

Good Morning Boys & Girls,

How are you all doing? I hope you’re keeping well. I got up early this morning and went a walk with Mrs Forth and her dog Tess. I got to meet some other dogs while I was out and they gave me a smile from a safe distance.

Sami made a cake with an important message. Well done!

I was looking at our mind maps and we have learned alot already about dinosaurs. You’ve all been doing fantastic and even if you’re not managing the tasks its still super for us to get some photos of what you have been up to so please keep the photos coming.

Leo and his sister doing the dinosaur dance! Great moves you two!

Today I thought I’d give you a creative task! I would like you to try and make yourself into a dinosaur. Let your imagination go wild, you can use ANYTHING you like. Here are some ideas.

Headband
Tail
Feet

You will definitely need some help from a grown up, the important thing is to have some fun. Maybe you can do the dinosaur dance in your costumes? I cant wait to see what kind of dinosaur you will look like, not too scary I hope.

Don’t forget to check in! Have a fantastic day.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 13th May

Good Morning boys and girls. It was lovely to speak to you all yesterday and hear all about what you’ve been up to and what movies you’ve been enjoying during lockdown.

Keep you eyes peeled at the bottom of this post for a fun (I hope) challenge today!

Literacy: PhonicsIn your phonics folder in your homework pack you should have 32 sounds (I think!).

Can you solve these clues and spell the word correctly?
1. Marshall, Chase, Skye and Rubble are all what type of animal?
2. In school we read a book called ‘Pirates Love Under _____’
3. Where do you go to buy new things?
4. Name a place you can go in the summer and build sandcastles.
5. If someone can life something really heavy they are very _______
6. A spider spins one of these.
7. What mums or dads might put tea or coffee in.
8. Where you go to sleep.
Literacy: Reading Re-read Top Dog. Is it getting any easier? Are there any words you’re finding particularly difficult?
HenWe are continuing to practice coin identification.

Go to https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game and select the Ordering option and then 1p to 20p.   When you have completed that try the counting option and work on Single Coins to 1p or 1p to 10p.
Health & Wellbeing All living things need food and water to survive. But all living things do not need the same types of food to survive.   Do you know, or can you find out what these things need to survive. HumansFlowersCowsLion
Extra Challenge A few weeks ago you did an alphabet scavenger hunt around your house. Today can you make your name using objects from around your house?

Miss Robinson got her dog involved to show you an example. She found a Carrot, a Ladle, an Egg and an Owl. If you put the first sounds of all those objects together you get her name. Cleo. (She even posed for a picture below!)
Can you spell your name too?

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 12th May.

Good Morning Boys and Girls. Well done on your spelling task yesterday! I was very impressed with how many you are all getting correct!

Literacy: PhonicsGo to: https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/fishy-phonics?phase=2

In this game you have to read the word and ‘fish’ for the correct picture.

Begin by choosing the 1-3 option and then choosing Easy. If you find it too easy then try the hard option.
Literacy: ReadingParents: In the children’s homework folder you should find their word tin (small plastic box with red lid). There should be 15 words in each tub. These words will be the common words your child was still struggling to immediately recognise at the time of last assessment. I have attached a list of all the common words that your child should be able to recognise up until this point in Primary 1. Many of these words have not been introduced due to either the fact that they have not been in school or they have not been able to recognise the previous ones and I did not want to overwhelm them. The list should be read across the rows.

Practice reading / recognising your common words with your adult at home. If you can confidently identify the words your adult can give you some new words to practice. You could make your own version of word cards for these new words.
NumeracyBefore we started learning from home, we were looking at money in class. Most of us were focusing on using 1p and 2p coins to make up amounts of money.

Go to https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-money and start by choosing the one coin option and then choosing either 1p or 2p. If this is easy you could try the 5p option or change to Mixed Coins and choose Exact Money up to 20p.

Dinosaur drawings!

Zachary and his brother Sheldon loved the dinosaur dance today and spent all morning dancing to it. Zachary also did an amazing job of naming dinosaur body parts then following it by naming his body parts. Well done great job Zachary.

Harris had a busy morning doing his dinosaur activites then went out on his bike, I bet you had a great adventure Harris. When he got home, after lunch he made a beautiful card. I love that card Harris, whoever gets it will be delighted.

Wowzers!! Amy was joined by her uncle Michael in todays activities. They spent time together drawing dinosaurs. It is easy to see where you get your artistic talents from Amy. Michael is a real artist and maybe when we get back to nursery and school he would like to visit us and do some drawings with us?

Well done Sami. You have done amazing colouring in and shown super pencil control. I love the colours you used, this dinosaur looks a bit like Haggis.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks Monday 11th May.

Good Morning boys and girls. I hope you all had a nice long weekend (even if the sun did decide to disappear on us!)

Some of you mentioned on our Google Meet on Tuesday that you weren’t necessarily a fan of Sumdog. I am currently looking into alternative websites that we can use that have a similar function but hopefully are a bit more enjoyable for you all!

Literacy: PhonicsLog into your Sumdog account (www.sumdog.com)

Click on Spelling   You should find a task called Monday Spelling.

Please try to complete this as independently as you can as it will allow me to see what areas might need some extra practice.
Literacy: Reading Parents: Please go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/user/sign_up.html and register for a free account. This will allow you and your child to access free reading books from home as obviously we are not able to issue new reading books at the minute.

After your adult at home has created an account click on the E-Book section. In the search bar type in: Top Dog. If you click on the speaker button the computer will read the book to you. Can you read the book to your adult at home?
NumeracyLast week you were practicing counting backwards. This is quite a tricky thing to do and takes quite a lot of practice.

Today I would like you to practice this again.   Here are some games to help you practice:

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/whackAMole/index.html (When you first open this game it will automatically start at 0 and ask you to go up. In the left hand corner change the starting number to 10, 20 or 30, whatever your child needs to practice and then in the right hand corner change the direction to backwards)

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/caterpillar-ordering

https://www.softschools.com/counting/games/counting_backwards_from_20/
Just like last week can you start at 10 and count to 0?
Can you start at 20?
What about 30?

You could make it into a game by passing a ball or other small object between you and someone else. Normally we do this and count up to see how many you can do, but you could try it counting backwards. You say one number (10) and the other person says the previous number (9).   If you think of any other games you could play to practice please share them and then all the boys and girls can have a go!
Health & WellbeingAs part of a healthy, balanced diet we need to try and eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day.

Have a look around your house and see what fruits and vegetables you can find.

Can you sort them into two piles Fruit and Vegetables.?
Can you think of any other fruits or vegetables that you may not have in your house? What is your favourite?

Nursery 11.05.2020

Good Morning boys and girls, Its me Haggis! Im back with Mrs Forth and I hope you are all doing well, still staying at home and keeping safe. The government has now said we can get out twice a day for exercise so I am super excited as I can go a walk and then later go a cylcle!!

Today I thought you could try out being a dinosaur, its super fun and will get your body moving. Here is a link to a fun dinosaur dance that I thought we could all try, maybe someone could take a photograph or even better a video and send it to Mrs Forth?

How did you feel when you were doing the dance? When you finish put your hand on your heart, what can you feel? Do you know why your heart goes fast when you exercise?

I also thought seen as we are talking about our bodies, can you name the different parts of my body? Maybe you could get someone to help you draw me and name my body parts? Head, tail, neck, legs, eyes etc..

Don’t forget to check in and please send your photos and or videos to Mrs Forth at emma.forth79@gmail.com
