Matching dinosaurs
story time

Harris had some fun matching up and sorting his dinosaurs before heading to the woods with mum and sister Eilidh. Harris got upset when he got to our special place in the woods as some very naughty folk had tipped over all the log seats and left rubbish strewn about. He helped to right the seating and pick up the rubbish well done Harris and thank you. You are a star🌟.

Tristan has been busy he went on the dinosaur trail and found some footprints he also found the nest with the big egg. Tristan made his own dinosaur footprints and stuck them on to paper to make a picture. He also made some dinosaur pictures coloured them in and cut them up to make jigsaws great idea Tristan maybe some of your friends would like to make a dinosaur jigsaw. Some super hard work from Tristan well done 🌟.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 6th May

Good Morning Boys and Girls. It was lovely to get to speak to (most) of you yesterday. We still appear to be having some teething issues, but hopefully I will get it sorted for next week and it will work properly. (Third time lucky!)

Literacy: PhonicsToday we are going to practice our rhyming words.

Here are a few games you could play: https://www.roomrecess.com/mobile/RhymeRoundUp/play.html http://www.literactive.com/Download/live.asp?swf=story_files/washing_line_rhyme_US.swf https://www.turtlediary.com/game/words-that-rhyme.html

Can you come up with two words that rhyme with:
Dog
Cat
Bed
Literacy: Reading Go to https://www.onceuponapicture.co.uk/portfolio_page/girl-and-dragon/ and have a look at the picture. There is a series of questions below the picture. Can you discuss the questions with an adult at home.   If you’re up to the challenge, try and write one of your answers down.
Numeracy Miss Robinson has seen on your online games and heard from some parents that counting backwards is something that lots of us are finding tricky. It is a tricky thing to do, but practice makes perfect!

With your adults at home practice counting back from 10 first. Can you say all the numbers?
Can you take it in turns to say a number with your adult?
Can you start at 20 and go backwards?
What about 30?
Here are some games to help you practice: https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/whackAMole/index.html (When you first open this game it will automatically start at 0 and ask you to go up. In the left hand corner change the starting number to 10, 20 or 30, whatever your child needs to practice and then in the right hand corner change the direction to backwards)
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/caterpillar-ordering https://www.softschools.com/counting/games/counting_backwards_from_20/
Health & WellbeingIn school we have been practicing our throwing and catching skills. If you have got one can you get a ball and go into the garden.

Practice throwing the ball up in the air and catching it. Can you throw it back and forth with someone else at home? Can you make up a game that allows you to practice your throwing and catching skills?   If you don’t have a ball you could use a small toy.

Nursery – More Dinosaur fun 6/5/20

Good morning boys and girls this morning Haggis and Topsy had fun playing a matching game they spent some time looking at pictures of different kinds of dinosaur, they then had to choose which ones were the same or “matched”, they found this a little bit hard do you think you could look at the pictures and match them up to help them? This will help with your concentration and memory skills. Mum and dad can tell you what the different dinosaurs are called, maybe you would like to draw one the same.

Playing the game
Matching game.

One of the things on the mind maps you wanted to find out boys and girls was:

Where did dinosaurs live?

We found out that Dinosaurs roamed the whole earth you could see them from the deserts which were very hot to the Arctic which was very cold. This would tell us that the dinosaurs were very versatile and could adapt to many different climates.

Boys and girls Haggis and Topsy have found a lovely story online for you they thought you would all really enjoy it. You all used to love story time so much showing great listening and giving your thoughts and ideas afterwards, now you can share this at home to show mum and dad how good your listening and observation skills are, it is called Dinosaur Dig we hope you enjoy it.

Parents you can find the story by typing in dinosaur dig watch and listen.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 5th May.

Good Morning Boys and Girls.

I am looking forward to seeing you all today in our Google Meets, either at 11.30am or 12.00pm. See you then!

Literacy: PhonicsLog into your Sumdog account (www.sumdog.com)

Click on Spelling .

You should find a task called Phonics work. It will ask you to have a go at spelling 20 words. Please try to complete this as independently as you can as it will allow me to see what areas might need some extra practice. (Parents please only assist in helping to find the letters if they are stuck and encourage the children to sound out the words independently if possible)
Literacy: Reading Parents: In the children’s homework folder you should find their word tin (small plastic box with red lid). There should be 15 words in each tub. These words will be the common words your child was still struggling to immediately recognise at the time of last assessment. I have attached a list of all the common words that your child should be able to recognise up until this point in Primary 1. Many of these words have not been introduced due to either the fact that they have not been in school or they have not been able to recognise the previous ones and I did not want to overwhelm them. The list should be read across the rows.

Practice reading / recognising your common words with your adult at home. If you can confidently identify the words your adult can give you some new words to practice. You could make your own version of word cards for these new words.
NumeracyToday we are going to practice our addition. Here are a selection of games to try. (You do not need to play them all!) https://www.mathplayground.com/ASB_JetSkiAddition.html https://www.mathplayground.com/amusement_park_addition.html https://www.mathplayground.com/math_racer_addition.html https://www.topmarks.co.uk/addition/robot-addition
Health & WellbeingYesterday Lona and Dino spoke to you about the importance of brushing your teeth. Can you explain to your adult at home why it is important that we brush our teeth twice a day?

Dinosaur 🦕 footprints

Today Amy and Zachary have been busy making their very own dinosaur footprints.

Amy used chalk to make a massive footprint look how big it is!!

Amy and her mum footprint looks very small and tiny beside the the big one. Well done Amy 🌟🌟.

Very large print

Zachary has again had a busy day on seeing the TITANOSAURUS he said Wow look at his long neck and big swishy tail, Zachary used paint to make his dinosaur print with his own footprint inside it. Zachary then spent some time sorting his dinosaurs from big to small good job Zachary 🌟🌟🦕.

Big dinosaur 🦕 footprint

A fun couple of days.

On Friday Primary 1 were tasked with finding out things about Space. Ava managed to find an actual Space Monkey and Gracie found a really interesting looking fact book!

They were also looking at what different emotions or feelings look like.

Robert and his brother Zachary went on a dinosaur hunt…

And they’ve been working hard on their sounds, reading and number work.

Finally… look at how fabulous Miss Alexis looks in her new costumes she got for her birthday! I’m quite jealous of the Tinkerbell one!

Happy Monday 4/05/20

Today Haggis and Topsy left Mrs Forth house and returned to Mrs June house Haggis warned Topsy about the very big tiger that lives in the house. Boys and girls it was a very exciting week last week going on your dinosaur footprint hunt in Milton woods, Haggis and Topsy had lots of fun bounding about the woods. We loved all the photos from Leo, Zachary, Amelia and Kayleigh and hope some more children managed to get out to find them over the weekend.

Looking at the mind maps you all did we are going to learn some more about dinosaurs and what you asked to learn.

How big was the biggest dinosaur?

Haggis and Topsy found out by looking on the internet that the biggest dinosaur that ever lived was a TITANOSARUS they used their huge long tail as a weapon. Thankfully they were herbivores so they would not have eaten us!!!

They were 45 foot tall and 120 meters long. To give you an idea of how big that was it was 3 London buses long and it was taller than a house!!! Very very big indeed so big in fact it is hard to imagine.

DEADNOUGHTUS SCHRANI – TITANOSAURUS
Size scale he was bigger than a very big aeroplane

Can you think of how big his footprints would of been? To help you Haggis found some pictures of actual dinosaur footprints that were found here in Scotland on the Isle of Skye, Haggis is going to see these footprints in the summer.

Big Dinosaur footprints
Dinosaur 🦖 footprint

Today we are going to learn about size and measurement, we use this to tell us how big or small something is it allows us to compare and sort things from big to small. Boys and girls we would like you to draw a big dinosaur footprint you can use pens, pencils, chalk or even paint you will need a big bit of paper. Then we would like you to draw around your foot beside the footprint. You will then be able to look at the picture to see which is bigger can you try and mark the biggest one for us.

If you have toy dinosaurs can you sort them from the biggest going down to the smallest if not you can use teddies to sort size.

Haggis and Topsy drew a big footprint

Can you see which is bigger our dinosaurs or the footprints?

We look forward to seeing some photos of you all making your pictures and sorting out your toys by size.
