Primary 1 Learning Tasks 4th May.

Good Morning boys and girls. I hope you all had a nice weekend (even if the sun did decide to hide on us a bit.)

🎂🎂Happy Birthday to Alexis for yesterday and Happy Birthday to Leighton for today! I hope you both have / had a lovely day!🎈🎈

Literacy: PhonicsGo to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zzq9wy6wXI and watch the video.

This will show you your new sound. If you can try to make a sound card to go in your phonics folder (small envelope folder in homework folders).

How many words can you come up with that have the ‘ph’ sound?
Here are some clues:

How do you talk to people who aren’t in your house?
A large grey animal.
What do you take with a camera?

Use your phonics folder and show your adult at home how many of your sounds that you can remember.
Literacy: ReadingParents: Please go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/user/sign_up.html and register for a free account. This will allow you and your child to access free reading books from home as obviously we are not able to issue new reading books at the minute.

After your adult at home has created an account click on the E-Book section. In the search bar type in: The Dragon Balloon. If you click on the speaker button the computer will read the book to you. Can you read the book to your adult at home?
NumeracyLog into your Sumdog account (www.sumdog.com)

Click on Maths.

You should find a task called Monday Number. Please try to complete this as independently as you can as it will allow me to see what areas might need some extra practice.

I know that some children find the timer distracting. I have tried to allocate them as much time as possible for this challenge. However for this games on Sumdog it is more about playing to beat their own high score as there is not a ‘pass’ rate like there is on Education City.
Health & WellbeingThe boys and girls in Primary 1 are REALLY good at remembering to brush their teeth. However, we are used to getting a little visitor in school to talk to us about how important it is to brush their teeth.

Watch this video. Do you spot anyone you know? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN1uTlmBo6E

If you’ve haven’t already brushed your teeth, brush along with Dino. If you have already brushed your teeth, use this song tonight.

Parents if you want to join this Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1513311555509586/?fref=nf

As always please send me a message if you have any questions.

Dinosaur Explorers

We have already had some children following in Haggis and Topsy’s footprints. They all did so well to get to the surprise at the end.

Leo, Allie, Anna and Maggie exploring
Robert and Zacahry were joined by some more dinosaurs.
Keilidh and Amelia were up and out early exploring.
Even Mrs June and Neve joined in

If you can, please try to take your child out to find the footprints as part of your daily exercise outside. Its only a small but fun walk.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 1st May.

Good Morning Boys and Girls.

I hope you saw last nights blog post will all your fantastic work on it. Miss Robinson was really happy to get videos from Oliver and Ava showing her all their hard work. You are all doing a fantastic job and should be really proud of yourselves. Well done!!

In addition to the tasks I have set for today Mrs Forth tells me that Haggis the dinosaur was a busy Dino yesterday. He was supposed to be playing nicely with Mrs Forth’s dog Tess, but instead he used his outside time to go on a trip to Milton woods with his new friend. Head over to the Nursery Blog post to see what he’s been up to. He would love it if you enjoyed the task he’s set up as well as the nursery children. If you do go exploring remember to take pictures as Miss Robinson, Mrs Forth, Mrs June, Haggis and his new friend would love to see them!

Literacy: PhonicsPractice all the sounds in your phonics pack. What words can you make with them?

1. Someone who has just won a competition.
2. Someone who has lost their favourite toy.
3. Someone who has just seen a monster.

Can you describe each of these emotions to your adult at home?
Special TaskToday is ‘Space Day’. Can you find out any interesting facts about space?

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Follow in my footsteps

Good Morning children

I had a really exciting time yesterday, me and my friend Topsy the triceratops went for a walk in the nursery woods. It was lovely and green, lots of the plants are growing and there was lots of wild garlic, we had a little snack on the plants as we walked round. This because as you learned we are both herbivores.

On our way round we left 10 footsteps for you to find and follow. They are all numbered 1 – 10 and have corresponding number of dots on them too for you to count. We started at the steps along from the nursery. You leave from behind the mercat center, turn left and follow the path, on the right you’ll come to some steep steps, start here!

Where we started.

Go down the steps over the little bridge that has no water under it. Walk down the path a bit and you’ll find our first footstep. After that follow the path beside the river towards the log cabins. Dont forget look out for footprints!! Once at the log cabins go right you’ll come to a hill that takes you up towards the village, go halfway up and turn right and walk towards the big tree and circle of wood stumps that the nursery meet at every week. Its basically a small loop of a walk. Footprints will be nailed to mostly trees along the way.

This was our favourite spot, I think lots of you have sat here before.

The last footprint is quiet hidden, its near the totem pole. If you head down the small path behind the circle of tree stumps you’ll find the totem pole.

This is the way to the totem pole

Once you are at the totem pole you’ll have to have a good look around for a tree with our last footprint. You’ll also find a surprise there which will answer todays question. How are baby dinosaurs born?

Don’t worry if you miss some footprints they will be there for a while.

Maybe take a pencil and paper and tick of the numbers you find. It would also be amazing if you can send me photos of what you find at the end.

Have a great day and please don’t forget about keeping 2 meters away from others if you see anyone else out and about. Please also note this doesn’t have to be done today, you can do it over the weekend and Monday.

🦖Don’t forget to check in🦖

More Fantastic Work

I have been SUPER impressed with Primary 1 the last couple of days. They have all been working so hard.

Today they had the challenge of finding objects in their house starting with all the letters in the alphabet. Miss Robinson was so impressed by how well they did.

Look how busy Gracie has been!
Ollie managed every letter except for ‘q’ all by himself.
AMAZING work Robert.
Eilidh really wanted to do it independently

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 30th April.

Good Morning boys and girls!

Literacy: PhonicsCHALLENGE: Ask and adult to help you write all the sounds from A-Z. Can you find something in your house that begins with all of these sounds? Some of them might be very tricky, are there any that are impossible?
Literacy: ReadingReread The Big Carrot. Is it getting any easier?
NumeracyIn your reading book the characters are trying to pull up a BIG carrot.   Today we are going to think about the size of things.   What is the BIGGEST animal you can think of?
What is the SMALLEST animal you can think of?
Can you find items around your house and put them in size order? You could order your teddy bears, plates, cups, shoes. It’s up to you. How creative can you get?

Carnivores and Herbivores

What a way to spend the day, feeding dinosaurs their lunch!

Great work Harris

Harris was really excited to start todays activity.

He knew right away that a Tyrannosaurus Rex would eat other animals and dinosaurs – “that’s what they use their sharp teeth for” and that the herbivores “don’t need as sharp teeth since plants are easier to eat”
Charlie tried to eat our T-Rex this morning……and the ham! I asked if this would make him a herbivore that likes plants or carnivore that eats meat and animals – Harris said “he likes meat!”
When we searched a protagonist Harris told me it was the Good Dinosaur Arlo and he only eats plants – he doesn’t eat the caveman so he’s a herbivore.

Zacahry those dinosaurs look really happy with their meals.

Zachary has had a lot of fun today learning about dinosaurs. He fed his carnivorou dinosaurs some Spam and slices of chorizo. His herbivore dinosaurs had some tasty grass and leaves.
After looking at some dinosaur books we decided that Haggis is a plant eating dinosaur, a herbivore. Zach found it funny as he’s named after a type of meat yet doesn’t eat it. Youre right Zach it its a funny name for a herbivore!!

Wow Amy! A dinosaur egg

Amy did a fantastic job today finding the biggest leaves for herbivore dinosaurs. Let us know what hatches out of that egg!!

Alfies mind maps

Well done Alfie who sent in his mind maps, I think you’ve done a great job and I like your drawing of a tail.

😀Welcome to Joe😀

I am delighted to introduce a new member of our nursery Joe.

Nice hat!!

Joe was due to join us after Easter but because we are all on lock down we didn’t get a chance to meet him. So his mum has kindly sent us a photo and told me Joe is 3 years old and lives in Milton. He has a big brother, Caylen who is 6 and lives in Skye and also has a baby sister Allie-Jane who lives with Joe in Milton, she is only 7 months old.

I can see that Joe likes paw patrol from his jacket, lots of the boys and girls in our nursery like paw patrol too!

Joe is delighted with our topic because he loves dinosaurs so he is really excited to learn about them. I am super impressed with his mind maps, well done Joe.

We are looking forward to meeting you when we all get back to our nursery but until then we are excited to see your work on our activites.
