Good Morning boys and girls,

You did an amazing job at your mind maps well done. This gives us a plan of what we want to learn.

What we already know
What we want to learn

As you all found on Monday dinosaurs are extinct, that means they are longer living, there are no dinosaurs left on earth. It is believed that an asteroid from space hit the earth and it caused all the dinsaurs to die out.

One of the questions you all wanted to know about dinosaurs is what they ate. Some dinosuars ate meat, these are called Carnivores. So Harris you wanted to know if they would eat you, I bet you would look very tasty to carnivore dinosaurs but because they are extict we don’t have to worry about that, you are safe! Other dinosaurs only eat plants and they are called Herbivores.

A Tyrannosaurus Rex was a carnivore
A Triceratops was a herbivore

For todays task I would like you to have a look around your kitchen and garden and make a meal for a carnivore dinosaurs and one for a herbivore dinosaur. Maybe you’ll go on a walk and see something a carnivore might find tasty. Take a picture of their meals and send them to Mrs Forth so we can all share. (If you don’t have meat in your house maybe you can draw a carnivore meal for a dinsoaur)

Finally I am a protagonist dinosaur, can you find out if I am a carnivore or herbivore?

Have fun boys and girls, I am so excited to see what you come up with and don’t forget to check in!

P1 Google Meet

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the Google meet (and managed to get these despite the fact I appear to have difficulties spelling Invergordon! 🙈)

Today was a practice run and I know some children were more confident and comfortable with the whole experience whilst others were more reserved. If you feel your child would benefit from having a Google Meet with a smaller amount of children in the future please let me know as this may be something we can do.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to join today!

Primary 1 Learning Tasks Tuesday 28th April.

Good Morning boys and Girls. I hope you’re all having a good week so far! I’m looking forward to seeing you today at 12pm on google meet! (I’m hoping that when you log in the meet should already be scheduled, but if it’s not just type in Miltonseahorses.)

Literacy: PhonicsLog into your Sumdog account at www.sumdog.com

Click on the Spelling Section.

Make sure your sound is up as it will ask you to type in the correct letters to spell the word that it says. You may need an adult to help you find the letters.
Literacy: ReadingParents: In the children’s homework folder you should find their word tin (small plastic box with red lid). There should be 15 words in each tub. These words will be the common words your child was still struggling to immediately recognise at the time of last assessment. I have attached a list of all the common words that your child should be able to recognise up until this point in Primary 1. Many of these words have not been introduced due to either the fact that they have not been in school or they have not been able to recognise the previous ones and I did not want to overwhelm them. The list should be read across the rows.

Practice reading / recognising your common words with your adult at home. If you can  confidently identify the words your adult can give you some new words to practice. You could make your own version of word cards for these new words.
NumeracyBack at the start of the year we were looking at different shapes. Squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons.

Can you make a picture using just these shapes? Maybe you could try to create a robot or a flower or a house.
Health & WellbeingLet’s try some Yoga with Paw Patrol   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_LNPuumAGM
Special TaskToday is ‘Superhero Day’. Do you have any stories with superheroes in it? Can you make a superhero mask or dress up like one?

Miss Robinson.

Good morning and welcome to a new week.

I am back staying with Mrs Forth this week after a busy week with Mrs June and Neve, I’m still not very sure of that big tiger that lives in their house.

Boys and girls did you know that although we are great friends I’m not the same as you all. All you children are humans and I am a dinosaur, do you know what that is? Dinosaurs are a group of reptiles that used to roam the earth but now they are all extinct (apart from me Haggis, but I’m a bit special!) I thought for the next few weeks we could learn about dinosaurs as a topic.

When we are all together at the start of a topic we make mind maps. So today we will start with that. All you need to do is get two bits of paper and some pencil or pens. On one write down “Dinosaurs what I already know” and on the other “Dinosaurs what I want to learn”. Just like I’ve done below.

Mind maps

Parents can you please ask your child what they know about dinosaurs, 2 or 3 words or bits of information is plenty. It doesn’t matter what they say just note it down, they could say “big” thats great it isnwhat they associate with dinosaurs. Even if you don’t think it’s suitable, still pop it down, it shows you value their ideas. Then for the other mind map write down what they want to learn, again 2 or 3 ideas is plenty. Once you have done this please take a photo and send it to Mrs Forth, when we have them all in we can put them all together to make a class mind map. I would love ALL the children to join in with this, it shouldn’t take very long and will spark your childs interest in the topic. Please let your children draw and write on the mind map, it lets them be part of the planning and feel like they are contributing. Oh and don’t forget to put your name at the top of your mindmaps.

This will give us a start to our Dinosaurs topic, I am very excited for you to learn all about us!

Once you have done your mind maps I would like you to find out two things for me.

1. What does the word Dinosaur mean?

2. What does extict mean?

You can find out this information in books, by asking someone who might know or looking on the Internet.

Please send your mind maps and your two pieces of information I’ve asked you to find out to Mrs Forth at emma.forth79@gmail.com

Have a very Happy Monday and don’t forget to check in.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks Monday 27th April.

Good Morning boys and girls. I hope you all had a nice weekend! I’m looking forward to hopefully speaking to you all tomorrow!

Literacy: PhonicsGo to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBA-R3Sx1Pc and watch the video. This will show you your new sound.

If you can try to make a sound card to go in your phonics folder (small envelope folder in homework folders).

How many words can you come up with that have the ‘wh’ sound?

Here are some clues:
The colour of snow
Talking quietly.
________ is your name?

Use your phonics folder and show your adult at home how many of your sounds that you can remember.
Literacy: ReadingParents: Please go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/user/sign_up.html and register for a free account. This will allow you and your child to access free reading books from home as obviously we are not able to issue new reading books at the minute.

After your adult at home has created an account click on the E-Book section. In the search bar type in: The Big carrot.  If you click on the speaker button the computer will read the book to you. Can you read the book to your adult at home?
NumeracyOver the past two weeks you have been practicing drawing pictures to help you solve problems

Today I want you to practice solving addition problems again.

Parents: Feel free to make up your own however here are some examples to help. I know I get mind blanks when put on the spot. Also, please adapt the numbers depending on how easier or hard your child is finding the task.

I have 4 teddy bears. How many eyes do they have altogether?

I build a Lego tower that is 10 blocks high. If I had 4 more to the top, how many blocks do I now have altogether?

Miss Robinson has 10 children in her class. Mrs Forth asks if 5 children from nursery can join us. How many children are there now?

I have 4 plates with three cookies on each plate. How many cookies are there altogether?
Health & WellbeingTry this workout with Mario and friends.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j363GqSeAho
Special TaskToday is ‘Tell a Story Day’. Can you read or tell a story to someone else in your house? Try to choose a book that isn’t your reading book.

As always, if you have any questions please just email.

Tea parties

On Friday Zachary was working hard preparing a tea party for his special friend the teddies, the food looks very yummy. Zachary then read to his teddies the story The Tiger Who Came to Tea, all the teddies looked happy out in the sunny garden listening to Zachary re-tell the story. good job Zachary.

Yummy food Zachary has lots of Tigers

Amy and her mummy were very busy making some amazing looking cakes Amy was using the whisk to beat the mixture, then she carefully counted out the cake cases for the yummy cakes. You decorated them beautifully Amy and mum. Then Amy and Zoe got all their dollies and Teddies ready for the picnic.

More adventures from Haggis and Mrs Forth next week ……….
