Primary 1 Learning Tasks 16th April

Good Morning boys and girls! I hope you all enjoyed a little bit of sunshine yesterday!

Literacy: PhonicsLog on to Education City (www.educationcity.com) and have a go at the city called ‘Phonics, Spelling & Reading’.

Try to play for a minimum of 15 minutes. (Your Education City Login should either be stuck into the front of your homework diary or in a small brown envelope in your homework pack. If you cannot locate it, please let me know.)

Parents: When we play this in class the children tend to try and rush through the game without listening to the instructions. Please encourage them to take their time and ensure that they know what they are being asked to do.
Literacy: ReadingIn the book you have been reading Kipper has been keeping a diary of what he has been up to. Can you write a diary entry either for yesterday (Wednesday) or today (Thursday)? What did you get up to? What was the weather like?
NumeracyIn class we were practicing drawing pictures to help us solve problems. I have put an example to show you what I mean. (Below this table as I am not tech savvy enough to put it in the table!)

E.g. I have three plates with 3 cookies on each plate. How many cookies do I have altogether? Can you try and complete 3 of your own?

Parents: Feel free to make up your own however here are some examples to help. I know I get mind blanks when put on the spot.

I have 4 plant pots and I put 2 flowers in each pot, how many flowers do I have altogether?

There are three busses with 4 people on each bus. How many people are there altogether?

I have 5 pairs of socks. How many individual socks do I have?

I want to make my family some cupcakes. If I want to give mum 3 cupcakes, dad 2 cupcakes and my sister 2 cupcakes how many do I have to make?
Health & WellbeingGo to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1S8WzwLPlM and watch this video about the life cycle of a caterpillar.   Can you tell your adult at home what the 4 stages are in the life cycle? CLUE: it starts with an egg!
Fun Challenge! If you’ve got one try and complete a jigsaw puzzle.

As always please send an email if you have any questions.

Miss Robinson 🙂

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you are all doing well and managing to get out for some fresh air and your daily exercise. What have you all be doing for your exercise? I’ve been helping Mrs Forths oldest son Toby with his paperound in the morning. He goes really fast on his bike. Her other son George does a paper round too but he leaves far too early.

Don’t worry we put on helmets after the photo.

On Tuesday we were scientists and learned about eggs. Today there are some things I would like you to find out about eggs. You can use books but the Internet might be the easiest way to find out these 3 bits of information I would like to know.

1. How many eggs does a chicken lay a day?

2. What lays the biggest eggs?

3. What lays the smallest eggs?

Once you’ve found out this information please let me know. Maybe someone can help you write the answers and you could draw some pictures round it and make some marks, this helps you with your fine motor skills (getting yours fingers strong).

The eggs we investigated on Tuesday were not fertilised so they didn’t have chicks growing in them. Fertilised eggs do have chicks growing in them. If an egg is fertilised it needs a nice warm nest to keep it safe and also it needs to be kept warm until the chick is all grown and it is ready to hatch.

So I thought you could be creative today. Pick your most favourite cuddly toy and make a nest for it. (It doesn’t have to be a bird or egg laying animal, its just for fun) You could even make a nest for yourself? Mrs Forth made me a nest to sit in.

You can use ANYTHING. Ribbon, sticks, scarves, pillows, blankets, pipe cleaners, glitter, let your imagination go wild and show me your amazing nests. Don’t forget to email Mrs Forth any photos and maybe tell me why you picked the materials for your nest and what you love about your nest. emma.forth79@gmail.com

Over the weekend I’ll be going to visit Mrs June and she will be doing this blog next week. I’m looking forward to seeing all her family.

Don’t forget to check in. 🦖

Primary 1 Tasks 15th April

Good Morning boys and girls. It looks like the sun might be making an appearance today. I hope you all get the chance to go outside and enjoy it for a little while.

I loved getting all your pictures yesterday. It’s nice t see and hear what you have all been up to.

Literacy: PhonicsAsk an adult at home to challenge you to spell 8 words (minimum).

You can choose how you do this. You could use your phonics cards, magnetic letters if you have them or write them down it’s up to you.

Here are some suggestions for the adults in case they are having a mind blank! Cat, dog, zip, box, shop, bath, ship, that, lips, pants, fish, peg.
Literacy: ReadingPractice the words in your tricky word box. (In homework folder).

You could also take another look at the Kipper’s Diary book. Is it any easier to read today?

Our Scientists!

Well done to out little scientists who took part in exploring eggs today.

Zachary loved learning about eggs, he explored it both in the shell and cracked open. He didn’t want to waste it so used it to make cupcakes, they look delicious Zachary 😋

Harris cracked his own egg open and it landed on the table but stayed perfect! He said it felt “squishy”. Also keen not to waste his egg he made scrambled egg with his for his lunch, Harris did you know that’s Mrs Forths favourite lunch?

Leo was very patience today as he waited for his sisters to go for a nap before he explored his egg, he had to do this because they have allergies and eggs is one of them! We must remember this for when they start in Milton.

When he held the egg he said it felt good, smooth and cold. Then he cracked it open and pointed to the yolk. He knew that snakes, owls and turtles also come from eggs. Well done Leo.

Also can you spot Leos new family member? This is Maggie his new puppy. She is only little and is having to stay safe like all of us by staying indoors at the moment, but I think she has been out in the pushchairs with the girls for some fresh air. Leo she looks like a great new member of the family. We are looking forward to hearing all about her. Give her a cuddle from all of us.

A Fab start to Term 4!

The boys and girls in Primary 1 have not let a little thing like the Easter Holidays slow them down. They have been working super hard today to complete their tasks and by the sounds and looks of things they’ve been working very hard!

I am so pleased to see that the children are engaging so well!

And look at the fantastic patterns they created on their Easter eggs. They are all much more creative than me!

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 14th April.

Good Morning boys and girls. I hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday and didn’t eat too many Easter Eggs! It feels a little bit strange going back to school but not actually going into the school building, doesn’t it? I am missing seeing all your little faces and hearing all your stories. However, if your adults at home keep sending me pictures I will keep trying to put them onto the blog so you can see what your friends are up to. I wonder how William and his chickens are doing. Has he had eggs for breakfast every morning?

At the end of todays tasks I have added a Fun Challenge. This is completely optional but if you have a go please send me a picture, I am planning to have a go too!

Literacy: PhonicsGo to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U354eD-hgQ and watch the video. This will show you your new sound. If you can try to make a sound card to go in your phonics folder (small envelope folder in homework folders).

How many words can you come up with that have the ‘th’ sound? Here are some clues:
How you feel when you want a drink?
The day of the week before Friday?
What you do with a ball?

Use your phonics folder and show your adult at home how many of your sounds that you can remember.
Literacy: ReadingParents: Please go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/user/sign_up.html and register for a free account. This will allow you and your child to access free reading books from home as obviously we are not able to issue new reading books at the minute.

After your adult at home has created an account click on the E-Book section. In the search bar type in: Kipper’s Diary. If you click on the speaker button the computer will read the book to you. Can you read the book to your adult at home?
NumeracyLog in to your Sumdog account (www.sumdog.com). You will find your log in details either in the front of your homework diary or in the small brown envelope in your homework pack.

1.Log in.
2. Click on Maths.

The game will ask you a series of questions. Try your best to answer them. Please try to play the game for 15-20 minutes.
Health & WellbeingGo to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhWDiQRrC1Y&t=134s and follow along with the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Fun Challenge! Can you design an Easter Egg with a pattern on it? The pattern can either be repeating shapes or repeating colours.

As always, if you have any questions please just send me an email at carolyn.robinson@tainroyalacademy.net.

Thank you

Miss Robinson

🦖Nursery 14.4.2020🦖

Good Morning Children,

I hope you all managed to enjoy your Easter holidays with your family. It’s a very strange time at the moment and nursery from home is a bit strange too but it’s a new term and I’m here with Mrs Forth & Mrs June to give you some activities through the week. It’s very important that you check in with your name on the nursery posts, its how we know you’re okay. We love to hear from you and see your photos too, we miss seeing your faces and hearing your news everyday.

It’s a bit cold

So I thought see as we’ve all been gobbling Easter eggs we would do a little bit of science today with a real egg. With your grown up get an egg and hold it. How does it feel? Can you use 3 words to say how it feels in your hands or rolling it along you skin?

Cracking

Now with some help break the egg onto a plate and let it settle. What can you see? Can you spot the shell? The yellow/orange bit is called the yolk. Can you find out what the clear bits are called?

Did you know that the eggs we are exploring are chicken eggs. If eggs are FERTILISED there would have been baby chick’s inside but our eggs are not fertilised and this is why we can eat them. Chickens are not the only bird or animal that comes from eggs, Im a dinosaur and I came from an egg!! Can you find out some other animals that come from eggs?

Please leave a comment with your name to check in. If your able to it would be great to get some photo’s of you being a scientist exploring your egg (don’t worry if you don’t have an egg today, you can do this at some point over the week) To send photos my email is emma.forth79@gmail.com

Have a cracking day and I’ll be back on Thursday with more.
