Rabbie Burns

This morning we learnt about Rabbie Burns because it is going to be Burns Night on Saturday. We learned that he is from Scotland, he worked on his Dad’s farm and like to write poetry. He got married and had 12 Children.

We also learned that on Burns night people eat haggis, neeps and tatties and read his poems. Some of us had haggis for lunch – we hope it wasn’t our Haggis the dinosaur.

Planning Overview for Primary 1.

Up until now we have been planning collaboratively as an Early Level Class . However we have come to a point in the year where the interests of the children in Primary 1 and Nursery are quite different. Therefore we have decided to plan separately.

We will still have together time on a daily basis but as it is getting further into the year, naturally the Primary 1’s will begin to transition into being based more in the school than in the Early Level Class.

Please find attached the planning for Primary 1’s new topic: Doctors.

Frosty Walk

As the weather has calmed down and the wind and rain made way for the frost we decided it would be a fantastic morning for a learning walk.

We noticed everything felt very cold and was covered in white. “Jack Frost has been making it frosty this morning” The children learned this wasn’t snow but tiny bits of water had frozen on everything when it got very cold overnight. The children enjoyed running in the big field listening to it crack under their feet.

We then found a big frozen puddle. The children learned that it used to be a big water puddle but because it got so cold the water had frozen into ice. We talked about why we should stay safe near ice, “It is like glass”

“We might slip and hurt ourselves”

We decided it’s best stay off the ice because even if we don’t slip the ice might break and we could fall into very cold and deep water. We found a bit of ice that had no water under it and showed the children how it easily breaks.

On the way back to nursery the children passed the gruffalo’s house, heard a very busy woodpecker and had to walk up a “big mountain” to get back to our cosy nursery.

The big mountain climb!

Party Time

What a wonderful time we all had at our Christmas party this morning. We had lots of dancing and party games followed by a Christmas snack.

After all that excitement we were ever so lucky to be visited by SANTA!! All the children were delighted to find they are on the nice list and even got a present to keep them going until next week.

We were even joined by Mrs Christie and Blair, we think Blair enjoyed his snack and little play in nursery the best, he wasn’t so sure of Santa.

Huge big thank you to all at the Mercat for putting on such a special party for us.
