Star jump Wednesday 17.6.20

Hello girls and boys on Monday we asked you to look around your house and sort the food you find in to 2 groups what you thought was healthy food and which food was yummy but as it contained lots of sugar we should only eat as treats.

Excellent work Amy you did a great job of sorting out your food groups 🌟🌟🌟.

great job Amy

Girls and boys haggis would like you to do some star jumps as part of our healthy challenge month. Time yourself and see how many you can do in one minute, this will make your heart pump, put your hand on your chest after you have finished you will feel it beating faster this is good for your body it needs exercise to stay healthy. You might feel thirsty afterwards, it is very important that we drink lots of water every day to keep our bodies hydrated. Mrs Forth is especially good at drinking lots of water she reminds Mrs June to do the same. Did you know boys and girls our body is 60 per cent made up of water so we need to drink lots of water or juice every day to help us stay healthy and well, especially in the summer when it is hot. Maybe you could use some water to make ice cubes to put in your drink to cool you down after your hard work exercising. You could pop the water in the freezer at home and see how long it takes to make the water in to ice, a fun science experiment for you all.

Neve and haggis did 20 star jumps well done.

Getting ready
star jumps oh no look haggis is falling
The water froze to ice

We look forward to seeing all your photos of your star jumps have fun.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 16th June

Good Morning Boys and Girls.

Are you ready for the second day of our trip? I loved seeing the photos of your fantastic passports yesterday and finding out of you were tall enough to ride all the rides.

I wonder what you’ll get up to today and what characters you’ll meet!

Art The weather in Orlando, Florida in America is VERY different to the weather in Scotland (most of the time).

The weather forecast for this time of year is Mostly Sunny and the temperature will be between 24 and 31 degrees centigrade. Discuss what that means with your adult at home.

Have a think about what sort of things you’d need to pack in your suitcase. Make a list of the essential items (no more than 6 are required but you can do more if you want) and then draw a picture of the sort of clothes that you would wear to explore Disney World Parks.
NumeracyLook at the map below. Can you explain (give directions) how to get from:
1. The Park Entrance to Donald Duck’s Boat
2. The Pond to the Rollercoaster
3. The Frozen Ride to the Log Flume
4. The Castle to the Log Flume.
ReadingListen to ‘Under the Sea’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC_mV1IpjWA

Why does Sebastian think it is better to live under the sea? Can you tell your adult at home or wrote your answer down.
Writing:Enjoy the Toy Story ride. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oqkZbkZ6gg

The Toy Story characters are all very good friends. Can you write a sentence or two about you and your friends.

Health challenge 15.6.20

Hello girls and boys we hope you enjoyed some of the lovely sunny weather over the weekend and got out walking, on your bikes, scooters, pushing dollies in prams, playing football anything really just being outdoors being active as this is our big health challenge month, when we think about everything that helps us to stay healthy and well. Could you send us some photos of how you spent your weekend we would love to see what you all got up to😊

The last time haggis came to Mrs June’s house he met the goodness gang and we talked a little about healthy eating , well guess what he met some of his friends and they decided to find lots of healthy food to show you all. They found lots of yummy food but Mrs June said it was not all healthy and some of the food was just for treats that we could only eat sometimes. She asked us to sort the food into 2 groups what was healthy and what were treats.

We found all this yummy food
Haggis wants to eat these foods most.
His friends helped

This is the food haggis thought he would like to eat most but something is not right some of this should be only for treats now and again. His healthy friends helped him to pick out the healthy foods do you think they got it right? Can you pick out which are healthy and which we can eat every day and which are treats?

Boys and girls could you gather some food and decide which are healthy and which are treats from your house and sort them in to groups to show haggis and his friends.

Remember to check today’s all school challenge and have a go at taking part girls and boys have fun 😀

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 15th June.

Good Morning Boys and Girls.

Normally around this time of year we would be getting ready to go on our big whole school summer trip (like the trip we took to the cinema just before Christmas).

Unfortunately we won’t be able to do that this year so I thought that Primary 1 could go on a virtual trip to Disney World! Each day you will have tasks to complete that are themed around a Disney trip. You’ll have video clips to watch and activities to complete. I hope you find it fun and enjoyable! 🙂

ArtBefore you can go anywhere you are going to need to make yourself a passport. I have included a template below, but you don’t have to use it.

Just remember you need to include a front cover, your name, your date of birth and a description of yourself.

In my template I have included an extra page for you to record the different characters that you meet throughout the week. Each time you see a character this week in a ride, video, or song, make sure to write their name in your passport! How many characters will you meet by the end of the week?

Disney World is in Orlando, Florida in America. Can you, with the help of an adult at home find out how far that is from Scotland? Can you find out how long it would take to get there?
NumeracyAll the rides in the park have a height restriction which means that you must be a certain height to ride. To be able to ride todays rides you must be taller than:
1. 6 of your own shoes
2. 8 pieces of cutlery
3. 10 books (lying flat, not piled on top of each other!)
4. 9 pencils or pens

Were you tall enough to ride all the rides?
WritingWe are going to go on a tour of Donald Duck’s Boat House.

Watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XERRGapwSVQ&t=17s.

What can you see?

Draw and label 5 things that you can see in his house.   If you’re up for a challenge can you make up a story that is set in Donald’s boat. You can write it down if you want or just tell it to your adult at home!
Reading Next, we are going to go on the Frozen Ride https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8OHP9OriMA&t=33s

Remember to record all the characters that you see throughout the ride.   After you’ve enjoyed the ride, how many words can you think of that rhyme with snow? They do not have to be real words; silly words are also encouraged. Can you write a sentence using some of your (silly) rhyming words?

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 12th June

Good Morning Boys and Girls

Literacy: PhonicsToday we are going to firstly practice matching lower and uppercase letters: https://www.softschools.com/language_arts/phonics/learning_alphabet/matching_upper_lower_case_letters/

Yesterday you were looking at the alphabet song. Today I want you to have a go at putting the words in alphabetical order. This is quite a tricky task so please don’t worry or panic of you find it difficult. You might only play the first level. That is okay. http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks1literacy.html#wordorder1
Literacy: WritingToday I want you to watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjoDEQqyTig. It is a little bit different because there is no talking in it. When it is over can you tell your adult what it was about? There are no right or wrong answers. It is up to you how you interpret the message of the video.

Parents: Although there is no specific right or wrong answer we would hope that the children would see that there are themes of bullying, being unkind, not being mean to someone because they look different within the video clip.
NumeracyToday we are going to play a game of BINGO. You can play by yourself or with other people in your house.

The first thing you’ll need to do is split a piece of paper into six sections by drawing a line across the middle and two lines down the page. Next you need to choose 6 numbers to write in each space. I’d advise starting with numbers to 10 and then maybe trying numbers to 20 or larger after that. Finally you need to get an adult at home to be your BINGO caller. However, we don’t want it to be too easy so adults shouldn’t just say the number, they should give you a clue, like: The number after 6, or the number before 10. The aim is to be able to cross off all the numbers on your BINGO board.
Health & WellbeingNormally at this time of year the NSPCC come out and do a special assembly. As this cannot happen this year they have teamed up with some famous faces to deliver an online assembly at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm0kccbZpYY&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR0s1KO4g_L1azVWIfirZzkMWsRosbPUMVwojZiXMPlsd8aW83ew77dfq3Y

Nursery 12.06.2020

Good Morning Boys & Girls, I hope you are all doing well and have the Friday feeling.

Todays all school challenge is the crossfit challenge, it is a weekly challenge so you might have done it last week but if you didn’t here is another chance. Below is your work out and there is a video on the main blog of Mrs Forth explaining how to do all the moves, I even helped her! 4 minutes is quiet long so if you want to maybe just do 2 or 3 minutes that is great. I’d also love to see what you use to lift ground to over head, maybe your favourite Teddy? I know some of the parents will be really keen to get involved too 😉. I would love some photos of you all taking part!

Crossfit Challenge

Well as its Friday I was feeling a bit tired after lots of morning walks with Mrs Forth and Tess. So this morning I thought Meow had the better idea and decided to join her for a long lie.

Me and Meow having a long lie

Mrs Forth didn’t mind because she said sleep is just as important as exercise. Did you know when you are all sleeping your body is growing and repairing itself. Having a good amount of sleep makes us feel better when we are awake and is good for both our physical and mental health.

The key to a good sleep is a good bedtime routine. I like to have a bath or shower, get into my pyjamas and have a bed time story. It is best not to have any screen time (TV, tablets, mobile phones etc) before bed because the blue light on screens delays the body releasing melatonin (melatonin is a hormone that helps us sleep) So books are a great way to unwind before bed.

When you register this morning can you share what your favorite bedtime story is?

Have a fantastic weekend everyone.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 11th June

Good Morning Boys and Girls.

Literacy: Phonics In school we spend a lot of time looking at the sounds that letters make and not a lot of time looking at the alphabet and the order of the alphabet.

I want you to try to learn some of the alphabet song.

I have included an example below but you don’t need to use it, use whichever version your adult is most familiar with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75p-N9YKqNo
Literacy: Reading Today I want you to pick three of your tricky words. It can be ones you find easy, ones you find hard or just the first three that come to hand.

Go and find a book in your house (you can use your reading book if you want but a longer story book would be better).

By looking at the words in the book or listening to an adult read it to you can you see or hear any of the tricky words you have chosen. Can you keep track of how many times you see or hear them?
NumeracyLog into your sumdog account and play for 15-20 minutes.
Health & WellbeingToday Miss Ross set you the task of a Family Egg and Spoon Race.   Make sure everyone in the family has an egg and a spoon.  Mark out a start and a finish.  Have an egg and spoon race – who was the winner?   Go and check out her video on the main school blog (it’s quite funny) and have a go yourself. Don’t forget to send any pictures to Mrs Christie at Joanna.christie@invergordonacademy.org.uk
