Primary 1 Learning Tasks 4th June.

Good Morning Boys and Girls. Thank you for sending me all your beautiful butterflies yesterday!

Literacy: PhonicsGo to https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/grab-a-giggling-grapheme and log in using:

Username: march20
Password: home

In the game ‘Grab a Giggling Grapheme’ choose the +ch, sh, th, ng option. Make sure your sound us up and click on the monster holding the sound that is said. If this is too challenging try the All Phase 2 option.
Literacy: Reading Have another go at your reading book. Was it any easier this time?

When you’re finished can you close the book and retell the story to your adult at home? Remember to include all the important details.
NumeracyToday let’s try practicing counting backwards again.

You can choose which game you’d like to play   https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/whackAMole/index.html (When you first open this game it will automatically start at 0 and ask you to go up. In the left-hand corner change the starting number to 10, 20 or 30, whatever your child needs to practice and then in the right-hand corner change the direction to backwards)
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/caterpillar-ordering https://www.softschools.com/counting/games/counting_backwards_from_20/
ScienceToday we are going to investigate sinking and floating. Some objects will float on the surface of water while others will sink straight to the bottom.

I would like you to find 3-5 objects in your house and decide if you think they’ll sink or float. Your adult at home could help you make a table to record your predictions.

Next, I’d like you to test your predictions in the sink, or a bucket of water. Were you correct? Can you record your findings?
Super-Secret Special ChallengeI have a special challenge for you all. I am sure you will remember that around this time last year you had your moving up day, where you came into Primary 1 for the days and pretended that you were already in P1. We made monkey masks and got to know each other.

Unfortunately this year the new Primary 1’s won’t be able to do that so Mrs Forth, Mrs June and I thought that it would be nice to host a virtual Teddy Bear’s picnic for the new P1’s. This is where I need your help! Can you design an invitation for the Teddy Bear’s Picnic and send it to me?

Please include these details.
Teddy Bear’s Picnic.
It will take place on Google Meet on Thursday 25th June at 12pm for new Nursery Children and 1pm for new Primary 1’s.

I hope I have explained that clearly. If you have any questions please email me.

Zachary

Today Zachary has been very busy he sorted out the goody gang into separate groups putting the fruit in one group and the vegetables in another. He then watched a film which told him all about fruit and vegetables.

Lastly Zachary drew picture of his favourite fruit which is a banana it’s a very good drawing Zachary I love how you made him look like the banana haggis showed you well done. Does he have a name? Then he did some writing copying what his mummy wrote this is fabulous writing Zachary very well done ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fabulous writing

Wednesday 3.6.20 Goody Gang

good morning girls and boys haggis returned to Mrs June’s house over the weekend as it s Health and Well-being month in Milton school we would like you all to check the school challenge daily for keeping healthy and fit it will be lots of fun.

We will be supporting this in nursery by talking about how what we eats helps us to stay healthy and well and good sleep routines.

Today Haggis met the Goody Gang he was interested to hear their stories of where they come from and how they grow and how they help us to stay healthy and well.

Haggis meets the goody gang.

Girls and boys we would like you to name and identify each of the gang, tell us where you think they grow in a bush, tree, or in the ground can you sort each fruit or vegetable in to groups by where they grow. We would then like you using crayons, pens or chalk to draw your. Favourite to eat.

Don’t forget to check the school challenge on the website and join in.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 3rd June

Good Morning Boys and Girls.

Literacy: PhonicsGo to https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/buried-treasure and log in using:
Username: march20
Password: home

In the Buried Treasure game, you should be able to play the ‘Phase 3’ Option and click on ‘+ng’. If you find it difficult choose the ‘Phase 2’ Option and ‘Revise all Phase 2’.

In the game you have to sound out the words and decide if they are real or fake.
Literacy: ReadingParents: In the children’s homework folder you should find their word tin (small plastic box with red lid). There should be 15 words in each tub. These words will be the common words your child was still struggling to immediately recognise at the time of last assessment. I have attached a list of all the common words that your child should be able to recognise up until this point in Primary 1. Many of these words have not been introduced due to either the fact that they have not been in school or they have not been able to recognise the previous ones and I did not want to overwhelm them. The list should be read across the rows.

Practice reading / recognising your common words with your adult at home. If you can confidently identify the words your adult can give you some new words to practice. You could make your own version of word cards for these new words.
Numeracy In your lockdown pack that is available at the Mercat Centre there are some dominos.

Can you sort them according to how many dots they have ALTOGETHER?

Put all the dominoes with 1 dot together, all the dominoes with 2 dots together etc all the way up to 12 (I think this will be the highest number)
ScienceLois very kindly shared a video of her caterpillars with us. During our google meet she shared that they are getting bigger and hopefully will be starting to change into butterflies soon.

Go to education city and search for the game Flutter and Fly. You should be able to answer the questions as we watched a video on the lifecycle of a butterfly a few weeks ago.

When you’re finished can you design your own beautifully coloured butterfly. You could use coloured pens, pencils, paint, glitter, whatever you want. I would love to see what you come up with.

CHALLENGE: Can you make the wings on your butterfly symmetrical? (The same pattern on both wings)

Remember to check out the main school blog for this weeks Health and Wellbeing Challenges. Have you started your 5K yet. I know we have lots of keen cyclers and runners in Primary 1 so this should be a breeze for you!

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 2nd June

Good Morning Boys and Girls.

Literacy: PhonicsToday we are going to revise the ‘ck’ sound. We know that both ‘c’ and ‘k’ make the same sound and when they are put together their sound stays the same.

Sometimes it is difficult to remember when to use a ‘c’ and when to use a ‘k’. This is something we simply must learn. However, the ‘ck’ sound generally comes at the end of the word.

Can you correctly spell these ‘ck’ words?

The opposite of front is…?
If you’re hungry between meals, you have a …?
The thing that holds your head up.
A small part of a tree that you can play with if it falls off.
What do you need to do to the door when you leave the house?
An animal that lives on water. How do you tell the time?
The opposite of thin is …?
Literacy: Reading Parents: Please go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/user/sign_up.html and register for a free account. This will allow you and your child to access free reading books from home as obviously we are not able to issue new reading books at the minute.
If you read Can you See Me? last week, please search for Big Feet
If you readAnt and the Baby last week, please search for Dad can you do this?

Like every other week have a go at reading the book. Before you start can you predict what you think the book is going to be about by looking at the front cover and the title. You can use the ‘read to me’ function if you want or simply read it to your adult.
NumeracyToday we are going to practice our addition. Here is a selection of games to try. (You do not need to play them all!) https://www.mathplayground.com/ASB_JetSkiAddition.html https://www.mathplayground.com/amusement_park_addition.html https://www.mathplayground.com/math_racer_addition.html https://www.topmarks.co.uk/addition/robot-addition
ScienceGo to https://www.facebook.com/Glasgowsciencecentre/videos/170064421062195/ and watch the video on how to make your own bubbles.

If you have the ingredients at home maybe you could give it a go? If you don’t have the ingredients don’t worry you can still enjoy the video.

Message for Primary 1 Parents

Good Evening All,

I hope you’ve all managed to enjoy the lovely sunshine today and over the weekend. Just a little update for you all on evidencing your child’s learning engagement.

We are really grateful to everyone for sending in photographs of their child’s work as we really do love seeing what they are getting up to but we also don’t want anyone to feel under unnecessary pressure to send in multiple photographs each day to prove their child is working at home. There are lots of other ways we know if your child has engaged with our learning experiences.

As of Tuesday 2nd June, Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will still require you to comment on the work being posted so they know your child is ‘present’ for learning and is feeling well.

In terms of learning engagement, if the task lends itself well to a photograph or if your child is really keen to show their teacher their work then feel free to send this in. If not, then just drop Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea an e-mail to let them know your child has engaged. Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will acknowledge this e-mail so you know your child has been recognised as engaging with the learning.

If the task is computer based -for example, Sumdog, Teach your Monster to Read or Education City – Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will be able to view your child’s results for that day so they will know they have engaged with the learning. So to be clear, you are not required to send in photographs every day but you can if you want to.

Blog posts which share your child’s work will take place no more than two times per week. Class Teachers will decide when this is posted and the day may vary each week. Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will make a decision about what to share and will try to ensure there are only two photographs per child, per post. This keeps it fair and places less pressure on everyone.

Please know that we are very grateful to you all for continuously engaging with the experiences we are planning. However, we know there are wonderful learning experiences happening in all of your homes too. If there’s anything out with the ‘planned’ learning experiences that you’d like to share – please do. I was delighted to have the opportunity to share Finlay, Abby and Eilidh’s box cars and Lois’ new caterpillar friends last week. These are all very valuable learning experiences and we are keen to recognise them too.  Send these to Joanna.christie@invergordonacademy.org.uk and I can share them. Your child may have learned to ride their bike, they might be helping more around the house, you may have made something special during lockdown – the list goes on. Please let us know.

So, to summarise:

  • Comment on the work every day to confirm attendance.
  • Send in a photograph or 2 if the task lends itself well to it.
  • If not, send an e-mail explaining what your child has done for the day.
  • Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will respond to your e-mail so you know your child is registered as engaging with learning.
  • Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will share your child’s work on the blog no more than twice per week. They will try to ensure there are 2 photographs included of your child, per post, where possible.

If you have any questions at all, please get in touch.

We are hoping this removes any pressure parents and class teachers may be feeling. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss anything further.

Looking forward to seeing you all ‘back at School’ tomorrow.

Shamya & Shanae

As we know Shamya and Shanane are in London spending time with their family isolating. They are having amazing weather down there and I just wanted to share some photos they have sent me. I am sure they have both had a stretch.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 29th May

Good Morning boys and girls. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and remember that Monday is an in-service day so there will be no tasks and no need to check in until Tuesday. 🙂

Literacy: PhonicsGo to http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/forestPhonics/index.html and choose the oo option. When you are finished you can try the other sounds that you know too.
Literacy: WritingLast week I sent you a coded message. Can you make one for me (and your friends on the blog) to solve. It doesn’t have to be as long as mine. It can be just one word or if you’re feeling confident it can be a whole sentence.

Nursery 29.05.2020

Well I am so impressed with all the wonderful Nessies you made with your families. You did such a super job!

Sami’s almost life size Nessie!! Wow!!
Amy use paper, cardboard tubes and buttons for her Nessie, he even has some friend. Great job Amy!
Trisitan used paper and pasta to make a Nessie puppet. Looks Great Tristian
Harris sorted Lego into green and blue and made a wonderful Nessie, super work Harris.
Leo and his sisters made a rock Nessie! He is amazing and great team work Leo.
Zachary and his family also used Lego and even included a Nessie hunter boat. Well done – I love the colour of your Nessie.

I am so impressed with how hard you all worked this week. I hope you enjoyed your task.

I will just finish off by showing you our mindmaps to show what we have all learned. It’s been very new learning a new topic through home learning but I feel it’s given us a focus and brought us all together to share our ideas. We have made our Nessies, brushed our teeth with Dino, went on a dinosaur hunt and made fossils to name a few of our activities. I hope you’ve enjoyed it.

Don’t forget to check in this morning, can you tell me what your favourite dinosaur activity has been?

Seen as you’ve all been busy on your Nessies your only task for today is to get outside and enjoy this lovely weather. Maybe you can try and spot Haggis in the nursery garden.

Haggis spotting

Just a quick hello to all the children and to let you know Haggis finished making his model which turned out to be a model of himself and not Nessie at all!

Anyway he is in the nursery garden so maybe if you are passing you can try to spot it and get a selfie with him!

We have had a few photos of your model Nessies and they are looking amazing. Please send them to me by the end of today so I can share them on the blog tmrw. Also any “what I have learned” mindmaps would be great.
