When we learn our sounds we always learn the ‘small letters’. However it’s important that we know what the capital versions of the letters look like too. Have a go at this game https://www.abcya.com/games/uppercase_lowercase_letter_matching and see if you can match the lower and uppercase letters.
Literacy: Reading
Using your tricky words box pick 4 words. Two words which you find particularly tricky and any other two words.
Can you put the words into a sentence? They can all be in one sentence or you can create one sentence per word (I’d recommend this).
For example: if the word is ‘much’ my sentence might be. I like going to the park very much. Try to remember capital letters at the start and a full stop at the end of your sentences.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Can you draw a picture of you doing that job and come up with 3 skills that you need to have (things you need to be good at) to do that job.
We have been sent a link to some words up resources, a program used by Speech and Language. Each Wednesday for the next six weeks a new strategy to help promote your childs speech and language will be introduced and there will be a live Q&A session at 1.30pm. If you’re interested please go to https://elchighland.com/2020/05/27/words-up-wednesdays/
Today’s challenge is to think of a sentence containing a rhyming pair and draw a picture to match. For example: A cat in a hat.
Sometimes its easier to think of the two words and then put them into a sentence. Personally I like to think of animals as I find them easy to rhyme with (some of them).
You could use a dog, a frog, a bat, a mouse, a chick or you don’t have to use an animal at all.
This is quite a tricky task so please do not panic of you find it a bit difficult.
Literacy: Reading
Re-read your reading book. What do you think of the book? Are you enjoying it? Also, have another go at your tricky words.

Yesterday you played a game about following directions. But how good are you at following directions in real life?
Close your eyes or blindfold yourself. Ask an adult to give you simple directions to get from one place to another. E.g. forward 3 steps, turn right…
If you struggle with your left and right put something in one hand to help you remember. E.g. right hand is empty but left hand has a coin in it.
Once you have had a go change places with your adult and see if you can direct them.

Today we are going to think about what you are good at. Can you have a chat with your adults at home and come up with at least 3 things you think you are good at?
Today is Wednesday and it is beginning to look like a lovely day. How are you all feeling today?
Haggis has been super busy making his model Nessy since Monday so he is having a bit of a long lie in bed this morning. He also has a busy afternoon with some exercises but you will hear about that in due course.
Busy making Nessy
I don’t know about you but I think Haggis might have got confused and is making Nessy look very like himself! 😄
I hope you are all working hard on your Nessy model, I have had a sneak peak at Sami’s and it is amazing.
As we are finishing up our topic on dinosaurs I would like you to do your mindmap showing all the things you have learned since we started. Here is one below that Haggis and I started.
It would be great if you could do your mindmap and send it to me so we put them all together by Friday. This shouldn’t take very long and I want to see lots of your writing and mark making on it, you could even draw or stick dinosaurs pictures on it.
To finish of today it would great if when you check in you could tell me how you are feeling this morning and why? I am feeling happy this morning because I have an exciting challenge to do in the afternoon with Haggis for all of you boys and girls and the rest of the school.
Good Morning Boys and Girls. I am looking forward to our Google Meets today!
Literacy: Phonics
You have all been getting so good at spelling words in the last few weeks.
Today we are going to practice counting sounds in words. For every sound that you need to clap.
For example if the word was cup you would clap 3 times c-u-p and if the word was shop you would clap 3 times sh-o-p.
Try these words: Dog Pop Chap Ship Long Thin Chip Sheep Boot When

Parents: In the children’s homework folder you should find their word tin (small plastic box with red lid). There should be 15 words in each tub. These words will be the common words your child was still struggling to immediately recognise at the time of last assessment. I have attached a list of all the common words that your child should be able to recognise up until this point in Primary 1. Many of these words have not been introduced due to either the fact that they have not been in school or they have not been able to recognise the previous ones and I did not want to overwhelm them. The list should be read across the rows.
Practice reading / recognising your common words with your adult at home. If you can confidently identify the words your adult can give you some new words to practice. You could make your own version of word cards for these new words.

Today we are going to think about following directions.
There will be a series of directions at the bottom of the screen. Follow the directions with your finger (you are the orange robot) and see what creature you find. Choose the matching creature at the right hand side of the screen to see if you are correct.

Get your self-portrait and around the outside I want you to write three facts about yourself. It might be your name, your age, your birthday, your favourite colour etc.
Harris was really raring to go this morning. He emailed me to let me know it was a sunny day and that we would need, shades, suncream and sandals! He knew they all begin with S!! Well done Harris, helping your sister out with her work is having a great impact on your sounds.
Go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONgqoexO8gY and watch the video to learn about your new sound. If you are able, make a new phonics card with your sound on it to go in your phonics pack.
After you have watched the video try and come up with some words that have the oo sound in it.
Can you solve my clues? What is at the top of a house? How you serve ice cream? What you read? Found at the end of your leg? Something you wear on your foot?

Parents: Please go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/user/sign_up.html and register for a free account. This will allow you and your child to access free reading books from home as obviously we are not able to issue new reading books at the minute.
If you read Tiger’s Family last week, please search for Can you See Me?
If you read An Odd Bug last week please search for Ant and the Baby.
Like very other week have a go at reading the book. Before you start can you predict what you think the book is going to be about by looking at the front cover and the title. You can use the ‘read to me’ function if you want or simply read it to your adult.

Today we are going to look at the concept of sharing things evenly. You can either draw pictures to represent your problem solving or you can use objects (small things like counters, cubes, coins, little toys work best)
I have 6 sweets and I want to share them equally between two people. How many do they get each?
I have the same 6 sweets and I want to share them equally between three people. How many do they get each?
I have 10 cup cakes and I want to put them into 2 boxes. Each box has to have the same number of cupcakes in it. How many cupcakes are in each box?
I have 8 flowers and I want to plant them into 4 plant pots. If each plant pot has the same number of flowers, how many flowers will there be in each plat pot?
If I have 12 apples and I want to share them equally between 3 people, how many apples does each person get?

Today’s task is to draw a self-portrait. Use a mirror and make sure that you get your eye colour, hair colour and style correct. Keep it safe as you will need it tomorrow.
Good Morning! I hope you all had a lovely weekend, did you notice the weather was really windy on Friday and Saturday? It felt a bit like winter again. When I went a walk I noticed that lots of leaves and branches had been blown off the trees. When you check in this morning can you tell me what the weather looks like today?
Well done to all those who did the reading challenge. It was amazing to see all your friendly and happy faces. Did you spot me?
We are on the last week of our dinosaur topic, I think you have all learned so much and did lots of activities. It is hard when we aren’t all together in our lovely nursery but it helps of we try to do something different. One thing on our mind maps we didn’t learn about and Amy talked about was The Loch Ness Monster. Now I know “Nessie” very well but he is very shy. I will tell you a little bit about him.
Nessie
So Nessie lives very near us. He lives in Loch Ness which is very very deep and is near Inverness. For many many year people have been spotting him in the water and say he is like no other living animal…. he is huge! Almost… like a dinosaur. Over the years there has been many sightings of Nessie however some people do not believe he is real and this is why there is such a mystery about him.
Loch Ness
Above is a picture of Nessie’s home Loch Ness. It has the ruins of Urquhart Castle on it. Loch Ness has many visitors centers and you can even go Nessie hunting on boats. Loch Ness is so deep that they have never been to the bottom of it, which is lucky because that is where Nessie hides (don’t tell the grown ups this!)
Today I would you like to have a look at pictures of Nessie on the Internet, do you think he is like a dinosaur and if so what kind? Also this is a task that might take you a few days, I would love you to make a model of Nessie. You can use anything from Junk to dough or wood, let your imagination go wild. I would like everyone in your house to get involved, it can be a team effort. At the end of the week we can share our models with each other. So can we try and have the done by end of Thursday please.
Also here is a link to the Loch Ness webcam, if you’re lucky you might Nessie on it, I’ll let you know you’re watching!
