Primary 1 Learning Tasks 19th May

Good Morning boys and girls!

Remember we have our google meet today at 11.30am / 12.00pm.

Literacy: PhonicsGo to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=du3incCU6Xc and watch the video to learn about your new sound. If you are able, make a new phonics card with your sound on it to go in your phonics pack.

After you have watched the video try and come up with some words that have the ee sound in it.

Can you solve my clues?
Something we do at night time?
What do you put your shoes on?
What does a mouse eat?
A lady who wears a crown?
What you need to do to ice lollies to make them hard?
Literacy: ReadingParents: In the children’s homework folder you should find their word tin (small plastic box with red lid). There should be 15 words in each tub. These words will be the common words your child was still struggling to immediately recognise at the time of last assessment. I have attached a list of all the common words that your child should be able to recognise up until this point in Primary 1. Many of these words have not been introduced due to either the fact that they have not been in school or they have not been able to recognise the previous ones and I did not want to overwhelm them. The list should be read across the rows.

Practice reading / recognising your common words with your adult at home. If you can confidently identify the words your adult can give you some new words to practice. You could make your own version of word cards for these new words.
NumeracyToday we are going to do some measuring. Don’t worry if you don’t have a ruler or measuring tape, you won’t need one. We are going to use our hands and feet.

When you are measuring make sure that you put your hands or feet right beside each other- try not to leave any big gaps.

Use your hands to measure:
A table
Your bed
The sofa.

Using your feet measure:
The length of your garden
The length of your bedroom (if you can walk wall to wall)
The height of someone else in your house (you’ll need to get them to lie down and try not to stand on them!)
Health & WellbeingHaving a healthy diet doesn’t mean eating only fruits and vegetables all the time. Foods can be split into two groups: Everyday foods and Sometimes Foods. Everyday foods are foods that help us grow and Sometimes foods are foods that are a little bit of a treat!

What category do you think these foods fall into?
Eggs
Rice
Potatoes
Crisps
Carrots
Milk
Chocolate
Cheese
Chicken

If you like Julia Donaldson have a look at this video. The school Miss Robinson’s friend works at had a very special guest reading them a book last week and she said I can share it with you!

Happy Monday 18.05.20

Good morning girls and boys we hope you are all good on this Monday morning. Mrs June and Haggis would like to wish our very special Mrs Forth a very happy birthday we hope she has a very special day.

Birthday wishes

One of the things we wanted to find out about dinosaurs girls and boys is where they live and what they do. Well some dinosaurs did not just roam the earth they could fly and swim also. Although only a few very special dinosaurs could do this the one dinosaur who could swim and spend long periods in the water was called a SPINOSARUS he was the biggest meat eating dinosaur that ever lived look at his big sharp teeth I think he looks very fierce, so does haggis can you see him hiding.

SPINOSARUS
SPINOSARUS
haggis is hiding

Dinosaurs that could fly were called Pterosaurs commonly known as Pterodactyl they would fly very low over the water catching fish in their long narrow jaws.

QUETZALCOATLUS
ORNITHOCHERIUS

Girls and boys if you would like to learn some more about dinosaurs that could fly and swim you can go on to the BBC Earth reptiles of the skies walking with dinosaurs on you tube and watch some film clips.

Could you put some water in a bowl and see if your dinosaurs can swim do you have any toy fish you could put these in the water for your dinosaur to catch like SPINOSARUS did, don’t worry if you have no toy fish you can use anything and pretend that it is a fish, that is called using our imagination and our children have brilliant imaginations see what you can come up with. You could have some water fun seeing if they can do this. Please remember for safety always ask an adult to help with this task.

We hope girls and boys that you are all spending part of your day outdoors walking, running and jumping keeping yourselves fit and healthy (haggis would love some photos of your outdoor adventures) this is very important for us all to be strong and healthy. Dinosaurs 🦖 long ago were very fit, they needed to be very fit so they could run away from bigger dinosaurs Predators who would eat them remember these were called carnivores.

Enjoy your day boys and girls Mrs Forth and Mrs June are missing you all very much. Haggis is looking forward to seeing photos you send of your dinosaurs having a swim and catching their dinner.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 18th May.

Good Morning Boys and Girls

Literacy: PhonicsLog into your Sumdog account (www.sumdog.com)

Click on Spelling.

You should find a task called Monday Spelling. Please try to complete this as independently as you can as it will allow me to see what areas might need some extra practice.
Literacy: ReadingParents: Please go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/user/sign_up.html and register for a free account. This will allow you and your child to access free reading books from home as obviously we are not able to issue new reading books at the minute.

After your adult at home has created an account click on the E-Book section. In the search bar type in: Tiger’s Family. If you click on the speaker button the computer will read the book to you. Can you read the book to your adult at home?

Parents: Normally I would consider changing the level of books the children are at if they’re reading them with ease. Obviously at the minute I cannot tell how easy or hard they’re finding the books so any feedback would be appreciated. If you think that your child is reading this book reasonably fluently please try them on An Odd Bug
NumeracyGo to http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/funkyMummy/index.html

Start by choosing + up to 10. If you’re finding that easy you could try + up to 20 or – up to 20.
Health & WellbeingLast week we were looking at fruits and vegetables and you had a go at designing and making your own healthy meal.   Other than trying to eat healthy foods can you come up with 3 other things that you need to do to be a healthy person? You can write your ideas down or just tell an adult at home.

Primary 1 Learning Tasks 15th May

Good Morning Boys and Girls. We’ve made it to the end of another week.

Mrs Christie and Miss Crew have asked me to tell you to keep an eye out in your parents emails for a special surprise today (Primary 7 buddies have written letters for the children). I know some of you have received your already (Oliver Thank you for sending such a lovely reply!) but if you haven’t it should come through at some point today.

Literacy: PhonicsLog onto Education City and have a go at Phonics, Spelling & Reading City.
Literacy: WritingGo to https://www.onceuponapicture.co.uk/portfolio_page/6074/ and have a look at the picture.

Discuss the questions below the picture with your adult at home.

What is your favourite Fairy Tale and why? Try to write your response down. It doesn’t need to be long.

E.g. My Favourite Fairy Tale is Goldilocks and the Three Bears because when I was a little girl I used to look like Goldilocks and I would pretend to be her.
NumeracyToday we are going to practice skip counting in twos.

Option 1: Go and get some pairs of socks. Lay the socks out individually. How many socks do you have? Now pair the socks up. How many pairs do you have? Can you count the number of individual socks without taking the pairs apart? E.g. 2,4,6,8,10 etc

Option 2: If you don’t want to use your actual socks you could draw pictures to help you.
Health & WellbeingGo to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5if4cjO5nxo and have a go at this workout.

Nursery 15.05.2020

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you had a nice breakfast, I had a big bowl of leaves and berries!! Mrs Forth is treating me well. After my breakfast do you know what I had to do? Yes you’re right I had to brush my teeth!

Did you know that a Tyrannosaurus Rex had really big teeth for eating meat, one of its teeth would be about the size of a banana! Were it’s teeth were bigger than ours?

A Tyrannosaurus’ tooth

When there were dinosaurs a long time ago they didn’t have lovely toothbrushes and toothpaste. So instead some of them used their claws to pick out bits of food from between their teeth. The T-Rex wouldn’t be be to do this as it had tiny arms. Instead when their teeth were worn and fell out they would just grow more teeth. Some dinosaurs would get up to 40 sets of teeth, you humans only get 2 sets of teeth so its very important to look after them.

My friend Dino, do you remember him? He has visited us in nursery with the lovely Lorna. Well he has a facebook page so you can brush your teeth along with him. Your grown up can find this on Facebook but in the meantime here is a link to one of his toothbrushing sessions. I am sure he would love to see photos of you brushing your teeth. You can send them to Mrs Forth and she could forward them to Lorna and Dino if you like.

Have a great Friday and weekend. Everyone. Oh don’t forget to check in, and maybe let me know what you’ve had or having for breakfast this morning?
